Had a dream last night that Vincent D'Onofrio appeared as Bobby Goren on Law and Order: SVU and the writers fixed the horrible mistake they made when Eames was on there a few weeks ago.
From an email I wrote at the time: Eames says something like, "All those years together, it's like we were married," and she's smiling. And then Olivia says, "But you weren't," Eames frowns, and the credits start. I don't understand why the final moment of the 400th episode of SVU would just be, like, Olivia making Eames frown.
Seriously, her face goes from this to this
And before that, there was the reveal that Goren and Eames have both left major case, separately, even though the final episode of CI ended with Goren passing therapy and Eames content enough with his having destroyed her career path, and there was a pretty strong sense of "And then they keep on keeping on," but whatever, apparently not.
Maybe the not-married bit was supposed to be a way of acknowledging that Benson lost Stabler without, like, actually using his name? And they just really wanted Eames as the Homeland Security officer and figured she wouldn't leave Major Case unless/until Goren did, so they shoehorned that in even though it defied the spirit of CI's final season? Those are the only possible explanations that makes sense to me, but I still hate them both. I looked forward to seeing Eames on SVU for weeks, and while I didn't expect any sort of confirmation or anything blatant, I didn't expect a giant eff-you to the Goren-and-Eames-fighting-crime-together-forever contingent, either.
So, I'm way behind on SVU. Haven't regularly watched in years. But I'm guessing they're going the "Benson is sekritly in love with Stabler" route still? Which has never sat right with me; I always read them as being sibling-ish. And raining on Eames' parade made SVU's star character look petty and self-centered. (This is just based on what you've said, but ending the episode on that note... yeah.)
I don't understand why they had to completely destroy that particular contingent's view. I mean, do they not realize that your subset of CI fans, like, buys seasons? And gives them money? It makes no sense to just give you guys the finger!
I haven't watched SVU in years, but I wanted to see Eames once I heard she was going to be on there so I watched the one ep. So I don't have any insight on the Stabler thing, just that I know he left and remember hearing that he wasn't coming back for the 400th. And the only way this scene makes sense to be is to assume Olivia was thinking of him when she turned a celebratory post-case drink into a depressing moment.
This whole thing was overly traumatic for me, haha. Though you did remind me to put season ten on my wishlist, so yay.
